Alxconn asks: "What are we trying to accomplish here?"
I for one forgot, once again, about the ICG lunch 2 Fridays ago. I would have loved the opportunity to discuss the group.
One thing I said to Alex a while back was that I would like to open the group to geeks who are not just computer geeks, but also Church A/V geeks. I have enjoyed many years doing Church A/V and have experienced many things. I wonder if a group of Church A/V geeks in here would be able to share stories and experiences to further their ministry? I suspect so.
I'll make a post to the front page and encourage people to reply in this forum.
Here we go!
IMHO the decision about whether or not to open the group to church A/V would pivot on the actual goal for Indy Christian Geeks. If the primary focus is to provide fellowship & encouragement then there would be no reason to restrict who participates. However if part of the focus is also to share & discuss church I.T. technology then A/V folks may not find as much value in ICG?
I will commit to being at the next ICG meeting. At that point I would be curious to put the question to the group as to the purpose.
The day after this site was built I posted a notice to the top of the page and asked "What do you want to see on the site?"
The response was null.
With Alex switching to DRUPAL we have opened up a wealth of web2.0 applications that are available to us.
Perhaps ICG is far more solvent as a monthly gathering than it is as a web-community. It's not my call to make. I have fostered tech small groups since the 1980's and it was never a question as to what we were doing. Now a days we all belong to so many groups that sometimes we have to choose NOT to be in some. Perhaps many of the members of this group have done just that.
I put it to the group. Who are we, What are we, and what do we do? I don't mind sticking around and finding out because I believe the opportunity to Glorify God truly exists in this concept. Whether it's a physical group or a virtual one only the members can determine.
